When you receive your summons, you have to respond to it; most people think it’s going to go away by itself.
When you don’t respond to a summons, you lose your case, which means you did not answer the court within a certain time period.
And now you may have a wage garnishment or a bank levy.
When a registered process server gives you a legal document, you have to be notified by the party that is taking you to court that you are now
aware of this and were legally served.
